Event Description: 

As many companies are grappling with the Great American Labor Shortage, leaders and hiring managers are rethinking how they build a broad and diverse talent pipeline. Addressing the issue in a sustainable way requires partnership between the private sector and institutions of higher education. During this panel discussion you will learn what our local institutions of higher education are doing to grow Milwaukee’s future talent pipeline, hear an employer's perspective, learn about innovative partnerships between companies and higher learning institutions and get ideas for what you can do today to invest in the talent of the future for Milwaukee and your company.

About Our Speakers: 

Moderator:
Dr. Phyllis King
 is the Vice Provost at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. She leads the integration of academic partnerships and education practices for pathway solutions to build ecosystems of navigation and integration for students to achieve seamless college journeys, degree achievement and career readiness. She is an administrative lead for M3, a Milwaukee public education network comprised of Milwaukee Public Schools, Milwaukee Area Technical College, and the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee (UWM) and the Higher Education Regional Alliance. Dr. King is the institutional program owner of the Moon Shot for Equity initiative, leading strategic planning and the implementation of bests practices within the university and across several universities aimed at ending equity gaps in higher education. She has been a TEMPO member since 2003

Panelists: 
Melissa Le is the Director of Talent Acquisition for the tenth largest non-profit healthcare system in the country, Advocate Aurora Health.  Through her managers and 70+ recruiters, she oversees all in-house staff hiring needs.   The group functions as both Talent Advisors, partnering with Sourcing Specialists, as well as Full Life Cycle Recruiters.  She has led this team through a merger and restructure, process evolution and optimization, and has received the Elite Honor Roll – Organization from Lean Human Capital two years in a row.

Dr. Christine Pharr has been the president of Mount Mary University since 2017 and has over 26 years experience in higher education. She possesses a passion for women's leadership, particularly in the sciences, and has worked in women’s universities for the last 14 years. Christine has led the University to being recognized by U.S. New and World report as having the highest social mobility in the state of Wisconsin and the third highest in the Midwest. Dr. Pharr is a co-chair of goal II of the Higher Education Regional Alliance (HERA), a member of Milwaukee downtown Rotary and Milwaukee Women, Inc. and joined TEMPO in 2018.

Dr. Vicki Martin became the 10th president of Milwaukee Area Technical College in July 2014. She has served the college since 1988, including as executive vice president and provost. In 2015, Dr. Martin launched the MATC Promise for high school graduates, and in 2018, she announced the MATC Promise for Adults, one of the nation’s first Promise programs for adult learners. Dr. Martin serves on the steering committee of the Higher Education Regional Alliance, and is a founding leader of the M3 (pronounced M-cubed) initiative. She holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, master’s degrees from the University of North Dakota and Cardinal Stritch University, and a doctorate degree in educational leadership and policy analysis from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.  

Dr. Mark Mone leads the largest university in southeastern Wisconsin as Chancellor of the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee since 2014. He has put UWM on a strategic course for student success, research growth, partnerships, entrepreneurship and innovation while managing unprecedented challenges facing higher education. Dr. Mone spearheaded the school's most ambitious fundraising campaign, which raised more than $251 million. Dr. Mone has served high education for more than 30 years as a faculty member, associate dean and senior administrator. He has a B.S. in Management from Central Washington University, a M.B.A. from Idaho State University, a Ph.D. in Organizational Behavior and Organization Theory from Washington State University.
