Quarterly Program Intersectionality: What is it, and what does it mean for your Employee Resource Group (ERG)? Date: Tuesday, June 8th
Time: Noon to 1 p.m. Location: Zoom Program Description: Intersectionality is not a brand new term or concept. It was coined in 1989 by Kimberlé Crenshaw, a legal scholar, to describe the systematic exclusion of Black women from anti-discrimination law that occurs, in part, through the separation of “race” and “gender” in discrimination claims. The word has, however, recently gained traction and visibility in conversations around diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging. This resource from Catalyst is a useful primer to understanding intersectionality. (Ramos, C. & Brassel, S. (2020). Intersectionality: When Identities Converge. Catalyst.) At this Women's Affinity Alliance program, we will level set and define intersectionality - what it is, and what it is not - and hear three leaders discuss how they approach diversity, equity and inclusion with an intersectionality lens.
