TEMPO Talks: The Disproportionate Impacts of COVID-19
Panel discussion

Date: July 10, 2020
12:00 - 1:00 PM

Event Description:
New data from CDC
shows that the COVID-19 death rates among Black and Hispanic/Latino people are much higher than for white people, in all age categories, accounting for 93% of all deaths nationally. In Wisconsin, the Department of Health Services reports that 33 percent of those with a confirmed case identify as Hispanic or Latino (12 percent unknown). The group represents only 6.9 percent of Wisconsin’s nearly six million residents. The state’s black population is also disproportionately represented with 19 percent of cases, but only 6.7 percent of the state’s population.

Why is this? To understand, we must take a hard look at the racial, ethnic and socioeconomic disparities that existed long before COVID. Our panel of experts will discuss this complex issue, and their thoughts on how we move forward now that the inequities in our community have been even further magnified.
