Julie King, MBA, PHR (she/her)< /strong> is a lifelong advocate for the underdog and the mis- or under-repr esented, and influences others to make leadership decisions using a DE& I lens, while creating intentionally healthy team dynamics. As a certified diversity and inclusion practitioner, she is passionate about equipping oth ers with the tools, tactics, and confidence to hold conversations about difficult subjects with comfort and engages others in her never-endin g quest to create inclusive spaces where everyone can thrive and feel a dee p sense of belonging – both in the workplace and in their personal spaces. All questions are welcomed in her learning experiences – she helps create b rave spaces for folks to explore subjects that can be otherwise tough to na vigate.
Julie leverages almost three decades of experience in healthc are operations leadership roles, as well as process improvement, coaching, and leadership development in her current work as Director of Diversity, Eq uity and Inclusion Learning at Advocate Aurora Health. (Now known nationall y as Advocate Health, after a strategic partnership with Atrium Health was announced Dec 2022, creating the nation’s fifth largest health care system. ) Julie also holds a seat on the Advisory Board of the Healthcare Studies p rogram at National Louis University, where she is an Adjunct Professor in m ultiple undergraduate, graduate, and post-graduate programs. She also serve s as an engaged volunteer for many other causes near to her heart, includin g serving as a board member for We Want the Land Coalition (WWTLC), a non-p rofit in Michigan whose mission strives to empower, embolden, and educate w omen and girls in all aspects of their lives.
Her educational backgro und includes obtaining a Bachelor of Science in Community Health from the U niversity of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign, and an MBA in Organizational Behav ior from the Lake Forest Graduate School of Management. In addition, she ho lds certifications in Diversity and Inclusion, Six Sigma Green Belt, Change Management, Strategy and Execution, Management Analytics, and Professional in Human Resources. A seasoned facilitator, Julie holds several certificat ions in content facilitation, including DDI and Vital Smarts, and has spoke n at national conferences, interviewed in multiple LinkedIn Live shows, and has been featured in an article on LGBTQ+ employees. When she is not worki ng, she and her wife (new empty-nesters, with two kids in college) live in the northern suburbs of Chicago, though they spend time at their cabin in M ichigan as often as possible. She is recharged by spending time watching th e sun set, the moon rise, the stars shoot across the sky, and by taking nat ure walks in the woods surrounding their cabin, finding every wild animal t hat comes across her path.
Cassia Carter
is a passionate believer in the value of talent development to help
people make decisions, tackle challenges, think creatively, and discover th
eir strengths. She is currently the Manager of Leadership Development at Ad
vocate Aurora Health, the 11th largest not-for-profit, integrated health sy
stem in the United States. The leadership development team helps AAH’s 4,50
0+ leaders lead well through inspiring learning experiences that enable the
organization to achieve business results. Their team supports growth and d
evelopment through individualized learning courses, specialized cohort expe
riences, an in-house designed annual week-long LD conference, resource gath
ering, and consulting across the system.
Cassia’s
background is in Industrial/Organizational psychology, a field devoted to
the scientific study of human behavior in organizations and the workplace.
Throughout her career, she has utilized this background in the nonprofit sp
ace, working with hospitals and health systems across the country to identi
fy best practices in clinician leadership development, diversity, equity &a
mp; inclusion, and utilizing coaching in healthcare organizations. Cassia h
olds a BA in Psychology from Pepperdine University in Malibu, CA, and an MS
in Industrial Organizational Psychology from the Illinois Institute of Tec
hnology in Chicago, IL. She has an executive coaching certification from Co
ach Academy International, and is a certified Gallup Strengths coach, certi
fied DDI facilitator, and certified BlueEQ trainer. She and her husband, tw
o kids, two dogs, and two cats live in Milwaukee, WI, and spend most of the
ir free time, energy, and money restoring their 1901 home in the Historic C
oncordia Neighborhood.
