SUMMARY:June 2022 TEMPO Talks
DESCRIPTION:
Date: Friday, June 10th, 2022
Time: 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m.
Location: Zoom
Event Description:
Juneteenth was only officially recognized as a federal holiday in 2021 al
though having original celebrations dating all the way back to 1865. With J
uneteenth approaching on June 19th, many companies, brands and individuals
look for ways to recognize and celebrate yet have come under fire for missi
ng the mark on honoring the federal holiday. Instead of meaningful celebrat
ions and recognition of Juneteenth there is room for much improvement.
TEMPO members <
span>Dina Abercrombie, Dr. Eve Hall and Morgan Phelps, will shed lig
ht on the history of Juneteenth and then unpack a few recent examples of wh
at organizations are doing or have done in the past that have missed the ma
rk. In this timely discussion they will help educate attendees on why and w
here the marks were missed and offer ideas on better approaches while provi
ding tangible takeaways that our organizations can implement to properly re
cognize this holiday.
