Back by popular demand, Emerging Women Leaders is proud to present 2023’s, Virtual Master Classes! We’ve selected 10 trending leadership topics, and 10 TEMPO member experts to share their wisdom. Attendees will have the opportunity to rotate between three 25-minute master classes (breakout rooms) during the event. Grab your caffeine of choice, and come ready to soak in the wealth of knowledge from our selected TEMPO members!

2023 MASTER CLASS TOPICS AND SPEAKERS:

  1. Finding and Justifying Your Leadership Style | Rebecca Mitich: Few things are more frustrating for talented professionals looking to move up the corporate ladder than being told they ‘lack important intangibles’ or ‘need more gravitas’. Truth is these things matter. In this session, learn how aspiring executives can improve their leadership style. 
  2. Rock the Role You're In! | LaShonda Hill: Do you feel like you need to keep “moving up” professionally? You are not alone! Learn how you can stay excited and engaged in your current role without feeling complacent.
  3. A Planning Workshop on Negotiation and Self-Advocacy | Jasmine Johnson: It has been said, “self-advocacy is a muscle – you need to work it out consistently in order to develop confidence and self belief.” The practical and necessary tools to get there are rarely discussed. You know what want for yourself so do not settle for less! Jasmine Johnson will help you learn tips on how to negotiate and advocate for yourself.
  4. How to Communicate about Challenging Topics | Kathleen Dohearty Penniston: How do you masterfully craft the right message during the most difficult of times? How do you ensure all voices are acknowledged and heard while staying true to your organization’s mission and vision? In this session, communications expert Kathleen Dohearty Penniston tackles crisis communications head-on and offers her expert advice.
  5. Belonging - How We Foster & Feel It | Amy Hanneman: At the heart of the diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) movement is the premise that all individuals have the right to be treated fairly and to participate fully in the workplace. In fact, studies show that belonging is one of the most powerful predictors of DEI efficacy in the workforce. In this session, DEI expert, Amy Hanneman teaches you that belonging isn’t just key to DEI; it’s also key to employee engagement.
  6. Don't Wear Yourself Out Wearing Many Hats | LaKetta Caldwell: We know we are more than just an employee; we are a daughter, sister, friend, partner, entrepreneur, board member, and the list goes on. With all these different hats we as women wear, how can we learn to prioritize our roles, learn how to say no to opportunities that may stretch us too thin, and learn which things are important for us to invest our time.
  7. Throw Imposter Syndrome in the Trash | Chauntel McKenzie: Imposter syndrome – it’s the dirty little secret so many of us fall victim to and can stifle us from seeing the greatest in our potential. How do we get out of our own way and reach our highest potential? In this important session, Chauntel McKenzie teaches us her strategy on how to turn imposter syndrome into your superpower!
  8. How To Get Involved on Boards | Peggy Williams-Smith: Community Impact is a priority for many EWL members. Many still wonder, what does joining a Board look like? How do you decide which Board to join and how to get started? In this session, Peggy Williams-Smith shares her Board experience best practices and offers tips to navigating this space. 
  9. The Role of a 401(k) Fiduciary | Heather Dunn: What is ERISA and why is it important to me?  What should I consider when I make my investment decisions and review my 401(k) statement? Leave with a better understanding of what questions to ask, the compliance side of a 401(k) plan, and how this critical employee benefit is managed.  

  10. Best Practices: How to Maximize Your EWL Experience | Patty Flowers & Isioma Nwabuzor: Learn about the opportunities that EWLers can leverage to make the most of their EWL experience while simultaneously preparing themselves for the journey to rise up to TEMPO.
