Event Description:
When everyone's included, we all win! During this interactive session, participants will learn how unconscious bias informs the decisions you make, as well as the impact those decisions can have on others. You’ll also learn about negative stereotypes and ways to mitigate them, including the danger of a “single story”. Finally, participants will come away with tactics to incorporate that ensure you are creating an intentionally  inclusive environment – everywhere you go.

About our speakers: 

Ashley M. Hines is an advocate, strategist, and entrepreneur dedicated to equipping communities to advance equity and create spaces where everyone is safe, valued, and respected. Ashley envisions a society where everyone is empowered and has the tools needed to fulfill their purpose.

Ashley has nearly two decades of extensive cross-sector experience and is the Director of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion for Advocate Aurora Health (AAH), a top 12 U.S. not-for-profit health system. Ashley's role focuses on advancing the system-wide diversity, equity, and inclusion strategy and goals by partnering with leaders and team members. Before joining AAH, Ashley was the Outreach Program Manager for the Office of Diversity and Inclusion at the Medical College of Wisconsin. While on her career journey, her heart for people; has driven her to dedicate tens of thousands of hours to causes with an emphasis on youth leadership and health equity. 

A native of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Ashley earned her bachelor's degree in Human Development and Family Studies-Child Development from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in Madison, Wisconsin. She has received several distinctions, including alumna of the 2020-21 Harvard Business School Young American Leaders Program, 2020 United Way of Greater Milwaukee & Waukesha County Philanthropic 5 Award, and 2017 Milwaukee Business Journal 40 under 40 Award. Ashley is married to Brandon Hines, an associate pastor at Christian Faith Fellowship Church; they live in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, with their children, Brandon Hines II (7) and Cora Hines (3).

Cassia Carter
is a passionate believer in the value of talent development to help people make decisions, tackle challenges, think creatively, and discover their strengths. She is currently the Manager of Leadership Development at Advocate Aurora Health, the 11th largest not-for-profit, integrated health system in the United States. The leadership development team helps AAH’s 4,500+ leaders lead well through inspiring learning experiences that enable the organization to achieve business results. Their team supports growth and development through individualized learning courses, specialized cohort experiences, an in-house designed annual week-long LD conference, resource gathering, and consulting across the system.

Cassia’s background is in Industrial/Organizational psychology, a field devoted to the scientific study of human behavior in organizations and the workplace. Throughout her career, she has utilized this background in the nonprofit space, working with hospitals and health systems across the country to identify best practices in clinician leadership development, diversity, equity & inclusion, and utilizing coaching in healthcare organizations. Cassia holds a BA in Psychology from Pepperdine University in Malibu, CA, and an MS in Industrial Organizational Psychology from the Illinois Institute of Technology in Chicago, IL. She has an executive coaching certification from Coach Academy International, and is a certified Gallup Strengths coach, certified DDI facilitator, and certified BlueEQ trainer. She and her husband, two kids, two dogs, and two cats live in Milwaukee, WI, and spend most of their free time, energy, and money restoring their 1901 home in the Historic Concordia Neighborhood.
