Event Description:
In January 2019, President Mike Lovell announced Marquette's newest research initiative, the Institute for Women's Leadership, overseen by the Office of Research and Innovation. The new institute was made possible thanks to a generous $5 million donation from the Thomas J. Rolfs Family Foundation. The goal of the institute is to advance research in the area of gender inequality, and create programming and training opportunities for women in leadership, both on campus and in the larger community. The Institute will help Marquette develop research to influence the national discussion on gender inequality, and enhance leadership and career development programming serving women on campus and in the community.

Join us as we hear from TEMPO Milwaukee member Jeanne Hossenlopp, Vice President for Research and Innovation at Marquette, as she discusses the launch and work of the Institute. Jeanne will be joined by Emerging Women Leaders Sasha Parsons Waters who develops programming for the Women’s Innovation Network (WIN) at Marquette and Emily Baseheart who is the founding member of Marquette’s Women’s ERG. Sasha and Emily will share their ERG experiences, recent milestones and future opportunities. Finally, Jennica Webster, Associate Professor for the Department of Management at Marquette, will share her expertise on gender, diversity and underrepresented groups in the workplace. Her content will focus on understanding women in the workplace through data collected and analyzed from a climate survey. What can be learned from the data? How can the data be used in the corporate ERG space in assessing the environment for female employees and advancing the climate for them?

About our Speakers:
Sasha J. (Parsons) Waters currently develops programming for the Women’s Innovation Network (WIN) and the Women’s Colleagues Program at Marquette University. She focuses on creating inspirational events and professional development opportunities for women, minorities and others currently underrepresented in innovation and entrepreneurship. She connects alumni, faculty, staff, students, industry professionals and Milwaukee community by planning and executing a wide variety of networking activities.  Her passion for helping others achieve their goals stems from her background as a Human Resources Professional, her entrepreneurial experience founding her own event planning company, Sasha J. Events, LLC and facilitating youth development programs.  She is originally from Flint, Michigan and holds a Bachelor of Arts in Organizational Communication from Western Michigan University.

Emily Baseheart is a Senior Director of Regional Development for Marquette University, where she leads the Wisconsin and Minnesota regional fundraising team and serves as the major gift officer for Southern Wisconsin. Lutheran Church Foundation Board, Elm Grove Junior Guild and the UW-Milwaukee Panther Varsity Club. As a former Division 1 college swimmer, Emily is passionate about youth water safety education and helped co-found the Milwaukee Aquatic Association in 2007.   Emily was inspired by Michelle Obama’s challenge to the audience during her Milwaukee book tour stop, How are we preparing our workplaces to be somewhere we’d want our daughters/nieces/granddaughters working in 10+ years? What can we do now to ensure their future opportunity and equality? Working with leaders across campus, Emily became the founding member of the Marquette University Women’s ERG in 2019, with a goal of connecting and empowering women throughout the Marquette campus community.
