Event Description:
Join us for our next EWL Explores outing on October 7th where we’ll immerse ourselves into the world of local entrepreneur and book lover Cetonia Weston-Roy. During the two-hour event, we’ll learn about Cetonia’s journey to making Niche Book Bar a reality, and she’ll lead us in a discussion of one of her current recommendations: “Such A Fun Age” by Kiley Reid. A life-long reader, Cetonia founded Niche Book Bar after asking herself why it was so hard to find Black literature in a wide variety of genres. This Milwaukee-based bookstore is committed to showcasing Black books both new and used, created locally and worldwide!

Members are encouraged to purchase the selection through the links provided to support Niche Book Bar. Already own a copy? You can purchase mostly any book through Niche on bookshop.org, and purchases will also be possible at our event from the Niche book cart.

More about Niche Book Bar:
In 2019, Cetonia-Weston Roy started a mobile book business that she ran from a cart attached to a bicycle. In July 2021, The Bronzeville Advisory Committee selected her proposal to purchase a city-owned building and she will soon open her first bricks-and-mortar bookshop at 1937-1939 N. Martin Luther King Jr. Dr.

The business, called Niche Book Bar, will be the first black-owned book store since the closing of The Reader's Choice in 2017. It is set to open in 2022.  Niche will primarily offer Black literature as well as serve as an all-ages community space and cafe offering wine, coffee, tea and baked goods.
