Emerging Women Leaders
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

ARE THERE ENGAGEMENT EXPECTATIONS FOR EMERGING WOMEN LEADERS?
There are no defined engagement expectations for Emerging Women Leaders. However, as most EWL members will tell you, you’ll get out of EWL what you put into it. There’s no shortage of opportunities to get involved in, yet it would be difficult to participate in everything! That’s why EWL is a “choose your own adventure” type program. For some, engagement means attending one event per month and participating in an EWL Connects (peer mentoring) group. For others, it may mean participating in the community involvement activities and meeting with their TEMPO Milwaukee member mentor every other month. Others might enjoy serving on a committee and being able to shape the future of EWL, in addition to attending programs and social events. The best way to find your fit is to ask questions of other EWL members, and sample the opportunities offered to find what is most beneficial to you, your professional development and your schedule.

“There’s always something to do but you don’t have to do it all.”

“There’s no pressure to be forced to do things. The group can be exactly what you want/need it to be.”

“There are so many great opportunities, yet you don’t feel like you have to show up to everything or get overly-involved. There’s a high return on investment for whatever time you can put in.”

WHAT MAKES EWL DIFFERENT FROM OTHER NETWORKING GROUPS?

  • “The ability to meet both EWL and TEMPO women at different events. The group is very diverse and I have enjoyed getting to know different women.”
  • “The caliber of women involved.”
  • “The level of support and encouragement that is provided by the other members of the group who are not only professional affiliations, but now have become some of my closest friends and champions.”
  • “Being able to develop your network with peers who are around the same age and career status, as well as with women who have additional life experiences in TEMPO Milwaukee. The connection to the TEMPO group is another differentiator and having access to those events and that network.”
  • “Opportunities for connection and mentoring from both the peer group and TEMPO members”
  • “There is a level of support and camaraderie among EWLers that I have never experienced in other networking groups. This unwavering support and commitment to helping raise each other up has facilitated such deep and meaningful friendships. We are all aspiring to be the greatest versions of ourselves that we can be – all of us are ambitious and strive toward continual improvement both personally and professionally, which is what sets EWL apart from other networking groups. Because of this, we push each other to pursue our passions and interests and to take risks that are outside of our comfort zones which have the potential to produce high rewards.”
HOW DO I JOIN IF I DON’T KNOW A TEMPO MILWAUKEE MEMBER OR CURRENT EMERGING WOMEN LEADER?

As awareness grows, we receive lots of independent inquiries from women who want to learn more and join EWL. Women who meet the criteria at-a-glance will receive invitations to select EWL events, including prospective member happy hours. We highly encourage interested women to attend as many of these events as possible to make connections with current participants, get a feel for EWL programming, and above all, ask questions to ensure EWL would be a fit personally and professionally. Think of it as your chance to make a great first impression. When the nomination period opens in October, the EWL Membership-Nomination committee will consider nominations from women who have expressed interest in EWL but do not know a TEMPO Milwaukee or EWL member.

We encourage current Emerging Women Leaders who aspire to be TEMPO Milwaukee members now or in the future to reach out to the TEMPO Milwaukee network (i.e. nominator, mentor, other member connection) to guide her through the nomination process.
